The islanders are noted for their staunch faith grounded in the teachings of the founders of Methodism in America. Established as Lee's Bethel in 1835, rebuilt in 1870, and enlarged again in 1890. The present building was dedicated in 1899 and renamed Swain Memorial in 1900. View is from Main Street of South Side including its South Side Cemetery.
